Bio
Born in 1986 in Sao Tome and Principe, Katya ARAGÃO is a journalist by profession. In 2009, she obtained her baccalaureate in Communication and Cultural Sciences at the Lusófona University of Humanidades e Tecnologia (Portugal). From 2012 to 2015, she worked as a journalist for TVS (Televisão Santomense) and hosted a talk show on national television before being promoted to head of the channel's Program and Production department. After this experience, she decided to pursue a career as a writer and producer. In 2017, she made her directorial debut with the short film “MINA KIÁ” which won the CURTAS PALOP / TL Prize. A year later, she directed a mini-series of 8 episodes broadcast on the National Television of São Tomé and Principe. In 2021, she developed "MUNCANHA", with the Santomean producer, Enerlid Franca, who won 2 awards at the Yaoundé Film Lab 2021. Katya ARAGÃO is today the first female filmmaker in her country.
