Synopsis

Mami Wata is an aquatic divinity from the Vodun cult. Half-woman, half-fish or half-snake, she is described as a waterside creature. Men and children eater, she is feared by local populations who hold her responsible for abductions and murders.

Somewhere in West-Africa, mutilated bodies of children keep washing up. Psychosis gains the population, talking about witchcraft rituals and blaming Mami Wata for holding a grudge against the inhabitants of Iwaho, the village on the riverbank.
Issa, an alcoholic and disillusioned inspector at the end of his career, is sent from the capital to solve the case. With the help of the local police chief, Malika Dramé, he dives head first in a spiraling investigation, risking to draw the attention of the local mob and awake the river’s spirits…
