January 3rd, 1966: a popular uprising occurs in Ouagadougou, the capital of Upper Volta at the time. The population is exhausted by the excesses of the regime in place. But above all, the ethnic origin of the president, awkwardly set in power by the colonial power following the independence raises a problem. In a context of insurgency, a huge crowd demands the departure of the president. A man manages to contain the chaos and thus finds himself propelled as President without him anticipating or wanting it. This man is Lamizana. Despite his uprightness, he will learn that power is to be shared with France via the Protocol of State officer, who hinders Lamizana's decisions when they do not match the expectations of Paris. Meanwhile, a romance begins between the President's daughter and the son of the Protocol officer, while the palace becomes the scene of a dangerous conspiracy.
