Bio

In 1995, at the age of twenty, Toumani SANGARÉ was one of the founders of the Kourtrajmé collective with Romain GAVRAS, Kim CHAPIRON, and Ladj LY. In 2000, he settled in Mali and revolutionized music videos, TV credits, initiated the first short film festival, and created Kourtrajmé Africa. He shot a documentary on the great griot Bako Dagnon and went on to work with Salif KEITA, Mokobé, Ali Farka TOURÉ, and others. In 2013, France O entrusted him with the direction of the documentary GAËL FAYE, QUAND DEUX FLEUVES SE RENCONTRENT. He collaborated with Ladj LY on the two documentaries 365 JOURS A CLICHY MONTFERMEIL and 365 JOURS AU MALI. In 2016, he created TAXI TIGUI, a series of humorous vignettes that was a huge popular success story on Canal+. Since 2017, he has been directing series and feature films with Canal+, Orange Studio, Keewu, etc., including SAHKO ET MANGANE, the 1st French-speaking African series bought by Netflix, and WARA, co-produced by TV5 Monde. In 2020, he moved to Dakar and opened the Kourtrajmé film school. In 2021, he produced "DIMANCHE A BAMAKO" (56x26'), a series that he co-directed with young directors Salimata TAPILY and Alou DEMBELÉ.
