Bio
Dani KOUYATÉ was born in 1961 in Bobo-Dioulasso (Burkina Faso) in a family of griots. After a Bachelor of Cinema at the African Institute of Cinematographic Education in Ouagadougou, he went to Paris where he obtained a Masters in Cultural and Social Animation at La Sorbonne, a DEA in Cinema Aesthetics at the University of Paris 8 and a Diploma from the International School of Anthropology of Paris. After several international tours as a storyteller, he directed 4 short films between 1989 and 1992. His first feature film "Kéita! L'Héritage du Griot" won in 1995 the prize for best first work at Fespaco and the Grand Prix Cannes Junior at the Cannes Film Festival. In 1999, he directed several episodes of the Burkinabé TV series "À NOUS LA VIE" and in 2000, his second feature film "Sia, le rêve du python". In 2005 he directed “OUAGA SAGA”, an urban comedy with teenagers from Ouagadougou. In 2013 he co-directed "SOLEILS" with Olivier Delahaye, a philosophical "road movie". "As long as we live" was released in 2015: this film deals with the question of identity in our globalized world. Dani is also a professor of ethnology and theater at the University of Uppsala, Sweden, where he resides.
