Bio

Born in 1959, Denis MPUNGA is a Belgian actor, director, writer and musician of Congolese origin. In the early 1980s, he created the groups Gomma Percussions and Eko-Kuango, with which he toured for over 20 years. At the same time, he worked as an actor in theatre with major directors such as Jacques NICHET (La tragédie du Roi Christophe in the Cour d'Honneur d'Avignon, 1996), or Alain TIMAR. In cinema, he has worked for Patrick RIDREMONT, Vincent LANNOO, Jeanne BALIBAR, Xavier GIANNOLI, after having started with the DARDENNE brothers in 1992, for whom he also composed the music for LA PROMESSE. As resident director at the Théâtre Varia in Brussels, Denis Mpunga has written 5 plays and is finishing his first novel. Since 2019, he has been developing his first feature film YOLO with directors Douglas MASAMUNA and Idriss GABEL, set in the DRC in the year 3030.
